what is a media release?

A media release , also known as news/press release, is a written document designed to deliver a newsworthy message to the media. It is the most effective way of proving information to media outlets about your event, issue or program. The purpose of a media release is to gain the interests of media outlet and  provide them with the angle of how to position the story. In addition,  a media release is n opportunity to tell your organizations' story with credibility of you own proactive authority and voice.

Digital media release

So, I really do not think that the media release is dead in the age of social media. Public Relations Practitioners are moving with technology and make it point that they get involve and interact with the public via social media channels.  Therefore, PRPs have created a digital media release specially designed for social media networks. This does not change the function, facts and newsworthy of the media release, but it has changed the formatting, which may includes multimedia, news website, search engine optimization and relevant links to useful resources that the intended public may use. Although, the content needs to be short and simple in order to share with the social media networks.

New Technology

Now, you see, with the new technology  of social media you do not have to stress yourself and think that you won't make it, all you have to do is to adapt to the system and go with the flow, it as simple as that, social media accommodate everyone. You just need to find the good social media platforms for your profession. The digital media release is make it easy for the PRPs to distribute the organisation information to various target publics, it also saves time and money. It has become a more useful tool for information dissemination. So, it not dead at all, but instead its transforming and becoming more and more useful.

In addition, PRPs has also introduced a social media release that makes it possible to even includes multimedia and rich information. This social media release can be shared within the social media networks with different targeted audiences.

So, you see that social media it here to make simplify our lives and make our jobs much easier. We should use social media to out advantage.

Do we still need journalist in the age of social media?

Hello Guys

Welcome to my blog. I am so nervous and excited at the same time, you know, I'm a first time blogger but I'm hoping that you will find my blog so interesting to read and also informative. Now, lets get started with our first topic.

I don't know how you would go about answering this question, but I think that the best way to understand this question better, is to first break it down, and define what is journalism/journalists and also what is social media, then again we will look at their functions or job, what it does. This for sure will have to help us answer this question right.

What is journalism/journalists?
Journalism is the business of running, or writing for, newspapers or magazines. Therefore, this implies that journalists are writers for newspapers and magazines. Journalism involves identifying newsworthy information for the mass communication. Journalists gather information in the field /public and then write a report on whatever they find as newsworthy. Furthermore, Journalism is about gathering and conveying news to a large, diverse audience through media, whether print, or electronic. If you've noticed this definition of journalism/journalists it does not say anything about the proactive of social interaction, it just a one way communication, where the public opinions really does not matter at all.

Journalist feed the public with whatever they want and think it's good for the public interest. Hope you'd also agree with me  that most people want to gain knowledge, become aware of most important events that are happening around them, they want to feel as part of such events as they affect and influence their lives. The public need to interact, make conversations with the relevant people that influences their lives and also make their views heard. Journalist convey important information to the channels that don't have or have little interaction with the public.

Now, let us look at what is social media?

www.goole.com:

When defining media alone, it is an instrument on communication such as newspapers, or television, so, now, what is social media? Social media then is a social instrument of communication. It is about building online communication with people who share interest and/or activities and who want to explore the interest and activities of others. Therefore, social media provides a variety of ways for users to interact. Now this tells us that this social media it a two way communication by the use of different social media platforms that allows users to comments on one another's posts, share and exchange content on social networks blogs, micro blogs, online rating sites, podcasts, forum/message boards, social knowledge/wikis, multimedia, etc.

www.google.com:

Surely now, you do understand the question very well, let us try to answer it then, I think that yes, we still do need journalists in the age of social media. I know, you might be disagreeing with me, but wait, let me elaborate more on my answer. The only thing that the journalists needs to do, is to quickly adapt to this social media platforms, though it wont be easy and it wont happen over night but still journalists needs to familiarize themselves with the best social media platforms journalists that could be useful and suit well with their job. They just need to add this missing element as part of their job, creating the two way communication and also to hear what's the public opinions on the news report that they writes and publish.

Journalists can also act as opinion-leaders within any social media platform, they just need to engage in conversations with the public, make comments, share their opinions, because in the age of social media everyone can be a journalist, (citizen journalists), they can write and report on any news that is happening in their presence, they don't have to call and wait for a journalist to come from far to write an article but citizen journalists can do that right away instantly via social media networks.

So, I think that journalists must build a good relationship with the citizens journalists to make their job easy and provide credible  and newsworthy information all the time and also to have an instant feedback from the public.

Now let me hear what you have in mind, let put all this into practice, you know, you comment and I reply "instantly", how nice!
